Whiplash - Auto accidents - neck injuriesSigns or SymptomsThe symptoms can run from mild to severe pain, muscle ache, headache, dizziness, nausea, and the list goes on. DescriptionIn an accident of this type the head, which is like a light bowling ball, snaps back and forth on the neck. This motion can cause tearing of muscles and ligaments. The joints become strained and inflammation along with swelling of the injured structures occurs. CausesThe rapid violent motion of the head causes these injuries. Standard treatmentIce, stretching, anti-inflammatory medications and possibly cortisone injections and surgery. AK ApproachUsing muscle testing, the nerves of the neck are evaluated to find out which are involved in your problem. It is similar to checking the wiring system of your house. Then, your overall posture and muscle support of your neck is evaluated. Tests are done to determine which muscles are under working and which are over working. Corrective measures are then taken to correct the muscle imbalances that affect the posture and alignment of your neck. Testing and correction of imbalances in the alignment of the neck bones, cervical vertebra, are performed to ensure normal motion and function. Finally, exercises and special procedures designed to coordinate proper muscle functioning of the neck muscles are d. As neck problems are so frequently aggravated by other problems like TMJ (jaw), shoulder, low back, and pelvic problems. All of these structures are evaluated to make sure that they are not contributing to your neck problems. The treatment depends a lot on when it is started in relationship to when the accident occurred. Immediately after the injury, procedures are done to limit further injury. If treatment is started later, along with normalizing function, more time has to be spent on treating the long-term effects of the healing process. These include adhesions that have formed between the different structures. |
