Trigeminal neuralgia - fascial pain and or paralysis
Signs or Symptoms
Pain and ache which occurs over the area
supplied by this nerve on the side of the face
Description
Severe pain that occurs over the side of the
face.
Causes
Changes in the function of the nerve are caused
by an inflammation that can be caused by local pressure from other structures
like blood vessels or muscles or from an infection like herpes.
Standard Treatment
Medical treatment is aimed at reducing the
inflammation or limiting the infective process. Dental care may involve splints
to reduce TMJ muscle contraction
AK Approach
Proper functioning and motion in the cranial
bones, through which the nerve passes, is examined for. Following this, an
examination of the muscles of the jaw is undertaken looking for abnormal muscle
contraction that could cause pressure on the nerve. Nutritional approaches are
considered which are aimed at reducing muscle spasm, reducing inflammation
and/or increasing the immune response.
Other lifestyle modifications are used to
prevent or minimize exacerbating the condition. A specific program for your
needs is created.
